A brief history of ceramic
Ceramic is humanity's oldest functional art. For over 20,000 years, civilisations have shaped clay into vessels that carry meaning as much as they carry water, wine, or coffee.
The Chinese mastered porcelain during the Tang and Song dynasties, developing high-fire techniques and reactive glazes still studied today. The Japanese refined the art through wabi-sabi — the beauty of imperfection — and gave us the yunomi, the handleless cup designed to be held with both hands. The Koreans perfected celadon. The Greeks painted their myths onto amphorae. The Italians of Deruta and the French of Limoges raised tableware to the status of heirloom.
